Allotments

raised wooden boxes, that way disabled people can get involved as well, people can plant what they want and the growers can share with each other or donate excess vegetables to a local food bank, initially the council could supply a range of vegetable plants or given a voucher to go and buy what they like to eat, money is tight these days and alot of families cant afford to buy healthy food so this idea is a win, win situation it doesn't just benefit one person but an entire neighbourhood

all you would need is for a locally owned business to build the wooden boxes and then fill with potting mix, I would probably build a fence around it, in the hope of stopping anti social behaviour from bored local kids, getting them and entire families involved might curb anti social behaviour plus kids might be more open to eating the vegetables that they have been involved in growing

an allotment would benefit everybody, where a new play park only benefits those with children,

The allotmeals would benefit the elderly and disabled, it will get them out of their homes, reducing loneliness and prevent isolation, make friends and have someone to talk to.

maybe a wee hut where the garden tools can be stored, and a tap, just incase we have another warm dry summer, nobody is going to want to carry heavy buckets from their homes

I guess im describing something similar to the allotmeals opposite the royal mail sorting office next to the rubbish tip. Or the allotments next to pollok park

you could paint the wooden boxes in bright colours to attracts the young kids these kids could even build a wee fairy garden in the allotment grounds, which will make them feel part of something  kids

There is a good sized area that is currently not being used, or will ever be used, its the plot of land in between 122 brediland Road and Ettrick oval, but there's plenty of other spots that can be used

Maybe a bench seat or 2 might be useful so the elderly and disabled can sit down when needed, it will also help people connect by sitting having a chat. You could also supply a few bags of seeds, not just veg seeds, but wild flowers as well

2 paved/slabbed areas approx 16'x8', either side of the flat access gate. Tenants enjoyed doing this through the spring/summer but chair legs sank, particularly after rain.

Break the Ice

If there were grit bins scattered within the area then people would have access to salt readily for when temperatures drop.  In this area we also have a nursery and 2 primary schools and a lot of people walk to school and to the nursery therefore having this facility it would make the local pavements and pathways safer for everyone.

The Housing Department will have a profile of tenants and their ages and will be able to identify the areas where the most elderly/vulnerable people live.

I'm sure able bodied constituents and neighbours would use the salt available in grit bins to grit the paths and pavements of their vulnerable neighbours.

The council could also have a pull of seasonable staff who could assist with this or it could be tied into the Community Payback team and they could do this as part of their community payback.

The seasonal staff or Comunity payback team would also be responsible for keeping the bins stocked up with salt so it is readily available when temperatures drop.

Additional Parking at Nethercraigs Court

There is a grass area near the enterance road to Nethercraigs Court car park which could be removed and tarmacked to create additional parking spaces. The car park here is small and residents sometimes double park or use areas which are not designated for parking. It would be ideal to provide additional parking spaces by removing this grass area.

Bin Area for 14 Achray Drive, Foxbar

14 Achray Drive currently have wheelie bins (6x grey, 6x blue and 6x green) which are kept at the side of the building. 16 Achray Drive have an allocated bin area and bulk waste bins. This is a much better practice and the bins are better kept at 16. If we could recreate this for number 14, it would take the bins away from the building and tidy up the bin area. This would require slabbing part of the grass area at the front and moving the existing metal fencing.

Remove the grass verge from lampost down to gates where current bins sit. Tarmac area (not slabs) then add a small wall at each side so a top can be added to the area to stop birds getting into bins. Area needs to hold 12 bulk bins with a height of 56 inches.

Create a slabbed area for the recycle bins which is accessible to residents but away from the buildings for fire safety. Slabbed area would have surrounding fence to contain bins.  Bins are currently located in parking bays which can be freed up and used by the residents.
