Feeling like I lived in a place where people were looking out for each other, people smiled and helped one another. This would only happen where people felt valued, safe and they had purpose in their lives. It would help if people felt connected to each other and in control of their lives.
Green spaces are so important too, if these were better maintained it would make a difference to people, shorter grass for the kids to play, floral displays woudl be lovely but the public could help with this too if they were properly equipped and trained.
I also think services have declined significantly, not just in the Council, overall but it's sometimes difficult to get the Council person you want to speak to as well. We can't expect our elderly relatives not to be confused by automated responses. We need also people who enjoy their jobs and who want to help in front facing roles in public services.
Better transport links is an area where Renfrewshire, in fact most of Scotland, fall short.
Having proper sized disabled parking bays outside High Flats on Great Hamilton Street. Rowan Court has 2 disabled spaces and these do not allow for a car door to be opened fully. It’s awkward for anyone with a Blue Badge that has mobility issues. Each high flat has 90 flats with the majority of people holding blue badges. This should be addressed at all the high flats in this area. Many of the lock ups are being used by people who don’t actually pay for them. Some people use 3 lockups. Are they making money for the council or could these areas be used for the tenants with cars without blue badges. I’ve lived here for years and only seen a few lockups in use.
I'd love to see a more vibrant Paisley High Street. I think the days of attracting retail to town centres has probably passed now, and I know the Council don't own a lot of the vacant properties - but I'd love to see more on my doorstep and be able to live (and spend!) as locally as possible to my home. I wonder what we can do to support more independent small businesses to have presence in the town centre, and how we can support more visible and joined up community activity for people to participate in throughout the year.
More generally, I think some areas have lost their neighbourliness - I'd love to see more neighbours and people coming together at that street level to make things happen and look out for each other as people.
Get potholes repaired and pavements taken care of as we have heavy traffic on Durrockstock Road and the road is a disgrace. Pavements which have been dug up for contractors to put wiring etc. never leave them in a way that they were to begin with.. Also tenants leaving building materials on pavements restricting people wirh prams having to go onto main road. More inspections after these works are completed.
Renfrewshire Council should prioritise improved street lighting and targeted CCTV coverage in areas where residents report harassment, intimidation or feeling unsafe. My own experience showed how the absence of usable CCTV can leave the police without vital evidence and make it much harder to identify those responsible. Using reported incidents to identify CCTV blind spots, alongside better lighting and practical support for victims, would help deter offending, strengthen investigations and give residents greater confidence when walking through their communities.
