Replacing diseased trees
Summary
Several trees on Houston Rd in Bridge of Weir alongside the service road east of the Kiosk shop have been felled due to disease. My Suggestion is that these trees should be replaced by new saplings.
Description
Recently two trees on this section of Houston Road were felled due to disease. Other trees have been removed in the past and it may be that more trees need to come down due to disease. Council’s Trees and Woodlands Supervisor has said that, “based on the dysfunctional structural integrity of the standing Acer, those works have been actioned proactively with considerations of residents, public and the roadway below. The land as an asset does remain with our Housing colleagues, as a future decision any request to replace would be welcomed, a review of the site constraints and proximity to roads may also have a bearing on scope of tree and positioning.” Any planting needs to consider trees which are disease resistant but also their affect on the community and a maintenance aspect. For instance, trees like sycamore which drop sap will not be popular with car owners who need to park their cars beneath them, likewise willow is prone to branches breaking off potentially damaging vehicles below. The cost of this project may need to include removal of any existing tree stumps.
The cost to plant a tree typically ranges from £150 to £320 for a standard garden tree supplied and professionally planted by a local gardener or landscaper. However, the total cost can vary wildly—from 50p to £1 per tree for large-scale woodland conservation planting, up to £800 to £2,500+ for large, semi-mature specimens that require mechanical lifting equipment. There may be additional funding for tree planting here from charities, and also free trees.
