Investment project code: 211

Project Summary

Local residents want to work together to maintain an area of grass within their area that only receives grass cutting from council. A flower bed has already been installed by a resident and other residents are now joining in. The grass is also being recut and tidied up after council cut it. The residents wish to continue to develop this green space as a garden for the whole neighbourhood which would help to brighten up the area and promote community spirit, goodwill and cooperation.

Project Description

The project proposed would see the installation of two raised beds for planting out and maintaining by the local residents/community. The beds would be set back 90cm on either side of the existing flower bed, so allowing for grass cutting and access to all beds. The raised beds themselves would be 200cm long, 90cm wide, and 60cm in height. The raised beds would allow people who may not manage to access the existing flower bed the opportunity to be able to take part in planting and maintaining the space. The raise beds would also provide a backdrop to The existing ground level flower bed and any future ones. The raised beds are also not too high, so that it will be the plants they contain that stand out, not them.

We would love the construction of the raised beds to be of a recycled plastics if possible, but this can be discussed more fully if the projected is passed. And that the initial soil and compost to fill the raised beds could be supplied as part of project.

The one existing flower bed has invoked such a response of goodwill and cheer from the local community, that the further expansion of this grass area with more beds and plants can only be a good and positive step for the whole neighbourhood, and the raised beds would be a further step forward.
